Mike’s Thoughts
This episode provides valuable information that I wish would have been available to me as a starting teacher. This past year I had a thought while in conversation with a veteran teacher discussing best practice: Who taught you how to teach when you first started? and How old were you then?
Since then, no matter how many teachers I speak to, the answer is the same: Nobody really taught me how to teach, and I was in my early twenties. No matter where you are in your teaching career, there is always room for reflective thought and learning to try to improve upon your classroom, school, or district. As Miles states, “What is the goal?” Plan out from there, then plan more and more.
